Ph.D. in Education - Adult Education Leadership

Last year, American business, industry, government and nonprofit organizations spent more than $23 billion to train and develop their workforce to succeed in today's highly competitive global markets. This specialization, offered by Walden University in partnership with Indiana University School of Continuing Studies, helps you develop the knowledge and skills required to conceive, plan and deliver highly effective corporate training and development activities using the latest techniques, electronic technologies and learning strategies. Graduates occupy leadership positions in training and development among major national and international corporations and large government and non-profit organizations. They also hold high-level university teaching, professional development and continuing education positions.

Ph.D. in Education - Community College Leadership

Leadership opportunities within community colleges are about to open up at an extraordinary rate, as an estimated 50 percent of presidents — and an even higher percentage of senior administrators — retire over the next six years. As community colleges face this potential leadership crisis, their search committees will be looking for candidates with doctorates in Community College Leadership. Walden's specialization in Community College Leadership is designed to meet the needs of working professionals by combining customized learning experiences with a foundation in social and behavioral sciences. It uses a cohort model, organizing program components for groups of community college administrators and faculty members. Through an online and research-based curriculum, this specialization focuses on the following topics as they relate specifically to the community college: How adults learn most effectively; Tools and strategies to promote learning; Effective development, organization and leadership; Integration of theoretical knowledge; using inquiry strategies aimed at assessing the need for change; How educational systems and policies can create focused learning opportunities.

As the demographics of the family and workforce change, the nation is increasingly turning its attention to the critical need for early child development and education. At Walden, you will develop the expertise to lead in the development of new program practices, to apply emerging research on development in the early years and to conceptualize new paradigms for early learning. Graduates attain key positions in college teaching, research endeavors, leadership positions and advocacy roles addressing the young child, birth through age 8.

At Walden, you will develop proficiency in knowing how individuals, particularly adults, learn most effectively, what tools and strategies best promote learning and in what contexts, and how educational systems and policies can be changed to create focused learning opportunities. Graduates hold leadership, administrative, teaching and research positions at colleges and universities throughout the United States providing academic and student services, professional development services and filling policy making and implementation roles.

Ph.D. in Education - K-12 Educational Leadership

Career professionals in education who work, or wish to work, in leadership and policy development at the building, district, regional or state level will find the specialization particularly suited to their needs for advanced study and certification and licensure. (Note on certification and licensure: Students undertaking the K-12 Education leadership specialization should possess a valid administrative credential or, in appropriate cases, they may seek to use the Walden University Ph.D. degree to satisfy certification/licensure requirements in their respective states. The specialization has been designed following both National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) published standards for programs in educational leadership. Acceptance of the Walden University Ph.D. by individual states for the satisfaction of certification or licensure requirements rests with each state. Students are advised to consult directly with their state certification/licensure authority for further information. Walden University does not directly provide administrative certification or licensure in any state.)

Ph.D. in Education - Special Education

Most K-12 educators are strong advocates for improved services for exceptional/disabled individuals. Unfortunately, resources for the delivery of these services are often far less than schools and school districts desire. At Walden, you will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to provide leadership in the special education field and to better assist your own students in the self-actualization process. Emphasis is on services to exceptional/disabled individuals and to the related areas of special education administration including law, finance and ethics.
