Students enrolled in the Brown College communication studies program are exposed to the skills needed to plan, develop, coordinate, and implement programs of information dissemination to promote a favorable view of an organization, products or services and to increase market share. In the process, students can learn to inquire, research, analyze, measure, reason and document as well as the ability to work efficiently and effectively within a professional team environment. Students can also gain exposure to the legal implications and ethical issues within communication-related fields, an understanding of the relationship and interaction between information and communication in business and society, and an understanding of the impact of emerging new technologies within the communications field.
Advanced course work is offered to help students develop a broader understanding of the role of marketing, advertising and electronic business within the field of media communication. Associate - Criminal Justice
The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice program can provide students with the technical and operational skills necessary to perform well in entry level positions across many segments of the fascinating and growing field of criminal justice. In this program, students will study how corrections, probation, and the courts function. They will also receive a firm grounding in criminal justice theory and practice by examining criminal justice roles, functions, systems, and operations.
Students will explore criminal justice from a sociological and psychological perspective as well. This program also explores market research and business concepts related to game production and distribution processes, along with project management and creative design. Students will use architectural drafting, space planning, and computer-aided design as they develop new concepts and refine their individual skills and talents. The program familiarizes students with the installation and upgrading of both hardware and software components. The program also provides LAN/WAN training, including network set-up, configuration, and management, by using industry standard client/server platforms. Additional topics include troubleshooting, help desk operations, end-user support, and evolving technologies. Brown College designed its Associate of Applied Science Degree in Radio Broadcasting program to help students develop the on-air presence and technical skills that they will need when competing for entry-level positions in the broadcast industry. Our program emphasizes on-air voice projection, radio personality development, and repertoire selection along with hands-on broadcast simulation. It also covers show preparation, writing for broadcast, vocal interpretation, audio console operation, and digital multi-tracking production.
Students are encouraged to explore the marketing and sales dimensions of the broadcast industry as well. In addition, our program addresses the developing relationships between broadcasting and the Internet by encouraging in-depth study and requiring an internship or practicum project. Brown College designed its Associate of Applied Science Degree in Television Production program to prepare students for entry-level positions as production specialists in broadcast television, industrial video, cable, and satellite. Students are instructed in all positions behind the camera and receive substantial hands-on experience in multi-camera studios and on location. We also focus on the concepts of both linear and non-linear editing.
Students can choose an internship or practicum project in order to complete the requirements of the curriculum. The course begins with development of basic artistic skills through foundation studies in design theory.
