The Associate in Science degree in Criminal Justice is designed to provide students with a broad introduction to the field of criminal justice and enables them to pursue an entry-level position in the field of protective services or to pursue more advanced study at the baccalaureate level. The curriculum offers a balance of theory and application that will prove challenging to students and useful in the field. As with most fields, computers have become an important part of criminal justice practice; therefore, the program provides valuable experience using computers.

This criminal justice program enables students to explore and prepare for career openings in policing, private investigation, corrections, probation and parole, private protective security, or as providers of security to firms concerned with incidences of computer crime. The Computer Programming concentration is designed to prepare graduates to enter the work force as IT professionals with a special emphasis in programming, and leading to careers in programming and software engineering, database development and administration, technical support, and technical writing. The concentration includes courses in LAN and WAN software, hardware, interoperability and design. Core courses are designed to provide students with a foundation in other areas including web server administration, programming database application, and microcomputers systems. Special emphasis is placed on programming and database applications. The programming language sequence includes modern object-oriented programming languages such as Visual Basic, JAVA, and C++.
